Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.
Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.
We have two types of volunteers:
Warehouse volunteers
They help to collect, weigh, sort and store donated food and make food parcels for clients to collect at the Foodbank Centre. This is vital work to ensure we have the right food available at all times.

Foodbank Operations Manager

Position: Foodbank Operations Manager
Tuesday Mornings, 9 AM – 12 PM, Incidental Wednesdays
Are you passionate about combating food poverty? Do you want to play a crucial role in supporting your community? We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer to lead our team of Foodbank Storage Volunteers at the Edenbridge Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Being 1 of the 2 managers of the Edenbridge Foodbank who work with the Project Manager who oversees the running of the team.
- Lead the Operations team of Foodbank Storage Volunteers
- Manage the organisation and storage of food items
- Responsible for database input
- Coordinate the annual Harvest Festival with churches, schools and businesses
- Coordinate the shopping of food items with another foodbank
- Coordinate with the local Hygiene Bank about hygiene and cleaning products
Requirements
- Passionate about addressing food poverty
- Available on Tuesday mornings during foodbank opening hours
- Available some hours monthly on Wednesday for shopping
- Self-starter who is happy to initiate and communicate ideas
- Drives and has the availability of a car
- Physically able to lift and move 10 kg boxes and push full supermarket trolleys.
- Able to read small, printed dates on packaging
- Comfortable working in a team environment
- Confident using digital communication such as email and WhatsApp
- Able to navigate, or learn how to use, an online database
An interest in looking after and editing the foodbank website and using social media for communication would be an added benefit and useful to us.

Foodbank Centre volunteers
They meet clients and give out food parcels. Have an informal chat with clients over a cup of tea, to discuss their situation and signpost to further support.
